Gordian III
END OF THE REPUBLIC - BEGINNING OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE
27 BC, Octavian defeats Marc Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actuim and takes the title of Augustus and become the first emperor of Rome.
FIRST ROMAN EMPEROR
Augustus (27 BC - 14 AD), has two great accomplishments:
1.) One of the great achivments that Augutus mad was the changes in the taxes because tax collectors were not being honest and taking more money then they were supposed to be taking so Augstus payed them a wedge and only made them collect the amount of money they were supposed to be collecting and if they collected anymore then they would get exicuted or fired.
2.) The second great achivment Augustus made was he made his army stronger by adding more men and soliders and they made Rome more strong and protected the city by defending it better from the Barbarians.
JULIO-CLAUDIAN EMPERORS' (14 AD - 68 AD)
The Julio-Claudian Empopers were:
1.) Tiberius
2.) Caligula
3.) Claudius
4.) Nero
YEAR OF THE FOUR EMPERORS' (69 AD)
1.) Nero- Killed himself.
2.) Galba- His supporters turned on him and killed him.
3.) Vitellius- Vespasian's friends fought Vitellius was was killed.
4.) Otho- He fought Vitiellius and lost and was killed.
YEAR OF THE FIVE EMPERORS' (193 AD)
1.) Pertinax- He was assasinated by the Praetororian Guard
2.)Didlus Julianus- He was decapatated by Septimus Serverus
3.) Perscennius Niger- Septimius Serverus killed him in a battle.
4.) Clodius Albinus- He was declared Emperor but lost to Septimius Serverus in a battle.
5.) Septimius Serverus- He was sick and died.
YEAR OF THE SIX EMPERORS (238 AD)
1.) Maximinus Thrax- Praetorian assinated him
2.) Gordian I- Died in 20 days
3.) Gordian II- Died in 20 days
4.) Pupienus- Died as a co-emperor
5.) Balbinus- Died as a co-emperor
6.) Gordian III- Ruled alone untill he died in 244 AD

THEODOSIUS (379 AD- 395 AD)
An empire named Flavius, Odoavacer, and Odoacer a German solider took power. He forced the previous emperor, Romulus Augustulus to give him his crown and he lost lots of power. They never had the power to rise again.

- Established property income taxes to pay for roads, bridges, sewers, and defense
- He established a tetrachy ton govern Rome ( A tetrachy means to rule by four)
- He split the empire into East and West parts, they both had there own emperor
CONSTENTINE (306 AD-337 AD)
- Becomes emperor
THEODOSIUS (379 AD- 395 AD)
- Banned the Gladiator Games
- Only legal religion was Christianity
- Church was above Government
